A Note From Karen

April 22nd, 1999

Hello to everyone! How is 1999 treating all of you? Mine has been very hectic, but happy!

Since the new year I have travelled from Forida to Wayne, MI. where I skated in an ice show for the city of Wayne. Then in February I flew off to Bejing, China to skate in a Chinese New Year's ice show. It was very exciting to travel all the way to China. The group & I climbed the great wall of China on our day off. Natilie (Kim) Jeybould and I counted 1800 steps up and 1800 steps down. Not including all of the ramped sections, it was quite the hike. My calves were sore the next day that's for sure.

After returning to Florida I have been busy preparing for next season. I have plans to work on three new programs. I am also planning to work with my friend and choreographer, David Wilson again. Perhaps I'll dive into the choreographer pool again myself. Alot of people gave me compliments on the pieces I did for myself last year, and I enjoy it, so I figure WHY NOT!!!

At the beginning of March I flew to Toronto, Canada for the "Legendary Night of Skating". It was a magical evening for skating. Every Canadian Champion in each division had been invited to help celebrate the opening of the new Arena, "The Air Canada Centre". Never has so much skating history or talent been in one place at the sametime. It was a chance for me to catch up with old friends and enjoy. For the first time I got to sit and watch the skating. It was tough not skating, but the show was only two hours long which meant not enough time for all of the Champions to take to the ice. So, I enjoyed my friends' performances and a quick visit with my family. Look for the coffee table coming out soon. The pictures are bound to be amazing. From Barbara Ann Scott-King to Toller Cranston to Liz Manley to Brian Orser to Don Jackson to myself. We were all there to celebrate our sport. What a night!

I am also teaching up to 29 hours a week here in Orlando. Two of my students just recently passed their intermediate free skate tests, and one of my "little stars" just landed her first loop and first flip. So far so good this year. Must be the coach...tee hee!!

I will be heading up to Toronto, Canada very shortly to design new outfits with my dress maker Ms. Arana. Most of my costumes since the early 1990's have been made by her and her staff. She is amazing. I am very excited to work with her again!

As you can tell my plate is always very full and this spring is no exception. On top of all the work, I have had many house guests as well. I have also had the priviledge of being the maid of honor in my best friends wedding in January, in Texas. Between now and May 2000 I will be a brides maid two more times. I guess I am getting to that age! YIKES!!!

I do hope you are as busy & happy as I am. Thanks for stopping by the web page. Enjoy the newest photos.

Take-Care & keep your blades sharp!

Warmest Wishes,

Karen Preston
