In May of 2000 Karen was rated a PSA master
rated coach in free skate. Karen was one of twelve in the state of Florida, and
now is one of eleven in the state of Michigan. Due to the annual PSA conference
in Las Vegas, Nevada in May of this year the statistics may change due to other
coaches passing the master freeskate exams, or due to other master ratings in
different fields.
Karen met Gary Wilson on The Elvis Tour in
1998. They dated long distance from Orlando to Toronto for one year. On New
Year's Eve 2000 they went to Baja, Mexico and at the stoke of midnight Gary
proposed to Karen and she said yes. She then planned her wedding for December
15, 2000, in Toronto. They had their wedding in Toronto at the Oldmill, a
Toronto landmark built in the 1600's. They had a 7 P.M. candlelight ceremony,
with a cocktail reception following. Karens' matron of honor was Amanda Socha
who played opposite of Karen on The Disney on Ice Tour-Snow White and the Seven
Dwarfs. Gary's business partner, Hungry at dawn, was the best man. They had
their honeymoon in Italy. They went to Rome, Florence, and Venice over a two
week vacation and had an "absolute blast".
Shortly after Karen returned to Orlando in
January, 2000, she decided she needed to be closer to her family and new husband
who were all still in Toronto, Canada. Gary and Karen made the decision for her
to move closer to them. She moved to Ann Arbor, Michigan, and is coaching at The
Ann Arbor Ice Cube. Now she can drive to Toronto in less than four
hours.
Karen was recently sworn in as a United
States citizen, which means she holds dual citizenship for both The United
States and Canada.
